Where Are We Going, Where Have We Been: Writing into Creative Lineage

In this seminar we will explore creative lineage as a concept, a context, and a subject for our own work. We will examine the figures who have served as our artistic role models and consider whether they still fit us. Are we under the influence of art, artists, and ideals that were prescribed to us before we knew we could choose them? We will experiment with accepting or rejecting our oldest influences and consider to what other lineages we might belong. We will explore our creative ancestors, those artists whose lives and work represent practices (styles, forms, traditions, praxes, politics) that have shaped us, that we work and live within, or would like to live and work within. We will ask ourselves how we can honor our past and future lineages, and become the kind of creative…
